Hendrik Bessembinder published a paper in 2017 called Do Stocks Outperform Treasury Bills?
The paper was subsequently shared, distributed, and spread like wildfire in the investment community due to the surprising conclusions.
What did Bessembinder do?
Bessembinder looked at the performance of all US stocks that have been public companies from 1926 to 2015 (about 26 000) and looked at their performance compared to one-month Treasury Bills.
Stocks have been a very good investment over the last century, but Bessembinder’s results surprised many.
